The impact of global political decisions on the economy and sustainability: The Trump case and international trends

The mind that is open to a new idea will never return to its original size” - Albert Einstein

I begin this text with the timeless reflection of the scientist and visionary, to address an essential issue, which at the moment seems adverse, but which we must look at from a broader perspective: the structuring of a global movement based on sustainability. This new market, driven by mechanisms such as climate finance, compensation for loss and damage caused by climate change, international carbon markets, bond issues for compensation and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), is gaining momentum thanks to society's growing recognition of its importance.

Many countries have implemented their own offsetting measures, developing national systems adapted to their realities. However, in an increasingly globalized world, where companies have headquarters in several countries, we are witnessing the construction of a market and a value with international reach and relevance.

It is natural for opposing movements to emerge, seeking to maintain only old values; however, this expansion transcends resistance, consolidating itself as a value rooted in social and economic roots, both nationally and internationally.

Sustainability is not just an inevitable agenda; it represents a strategic opportunity. Brazil, especially with its wealth of natural resources and biodiversity, as well as being a major contributor to the global production chain, especially in the supply of basic materials, and participation in global markets, occupies a prominent position, with enormous potential to supply even more to the world. Our increasingly strengthened tools and mechanisms need to be harnessed as a competitive advantage in a scenario that demands responsibility and action.

The movement towards more sustainable practices is irreversible. Once we have been exposed to the historical reality of our relationship with the environment and the new possibilities for basing our economy and society on it, we cannot go back to the way things were before, basing our business practices purely on traditional models. This transformation is already taking place, and it demands that we look for alternatives, broaden our horizons and create new forms, new practices, regardless of the forces that try to resist or halt progress.

Change has not just arrived - it is already shaping the future. It's up to us to ensure that this transformation is strategic and positive, seizing the moment as an opportunity to strengthen our economy, our national value and our leadership role on the global stage.
